the latest news in our ministry …

September 2, 2008

We were privileged to have a part in the chartering service for the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Souris, Prince Edward Island on July 27th. On our website you will see a picture of the six charter members. To some this may not seem like a large group, but each one represents significant victory after years of ministry in a difficult place. Our hearts were stirred as we listened to the testimony of what God has done in the heart and life of each one. This is an environment where the god of this age has fought hard to keep people in darkness, but the fact is that “God … hath shined in (their) hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Cor 4.6). This is only a beginning, as there are others in the community coming to Christ and still others who are growing in Him. We are truly blessed to have a part in what the Savior is doing all across North America.

Thank you for praying for the Peniel Baptist Church in Mexico City. When we were there in May, things were in a state of upheaval. We are so thankful that God has been at work, and there has been notable progress. We are still seeking to be an encouragement to the people there. Please pray that God would provide an interim pastor who, during the coming months, could love and minister to these dear folks who are bruised and hurting. We would also ask you to pray for another dear Mexican coworker, Pastor Eduardo Ortiz at the Rock of Ages Baptist Church. Eduardo has spent the last few years starting a church while pursuing an advanced seminary degree and working a full-time job. Now he is struggling with some serious health issues. Please pray for God’s grace for him and his family, and that God would grant wisdom to the doctors who are attending to his needs.

We had asked you to pray that God would help us with some creative projects we’ve been working on. Working together with others, some groundwork has been laid for a church-planting internship plan for Baptist Mid-Missions in North America. Lord willing we’ll be moving forward with this program for next year. But we still stand in need of your prayers as we work on the key project of selecting the most needy target areas for church planting in the years ahead. The objective analysis part of this we more or less have a handle on. What we need now is God’s help with the subjective, vision-casting part that comes from the heart. It is forcing us more than ever to our knees with the Word open before us.

May God bless you as you serve Him where you are, and may He increase your joy as you continue to labor with us in God’s harvest.
